Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
