19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The Russian, a former number one, has had a challenging period, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.
The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in that event in the past months.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on court had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an better serve.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
Moutet rescued four initial opportunities in a tight third set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, he clinched the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
